In View of God’s Mercy

DSCN0956In view of God’s mercy…offer your bodies as living sacrifices…This is your spiritual act of worship.

What is your view of God’s mercy?  Has it come into view lately?  As week one of our wellness challenge tumbled into motion I didn’t pick up on the beginning of our verse.

What a tumbling week this was.  The tracking of our moods during the challenge is a great way to detect the pace with which we can make lasting change.  I wanted to jolt myself.  The word “sacrifice” was in the forefront of my mind.  I planned on starving and giving myself sore muscles.  That wasn’t what happened as the temperature plummeted. Instead, I reached for comforting tastes and a full belly.  This was the most difficult transition to a challenge.  I have written in the food log something that I knew I shouldn’t have eaten.  Things that aren’t God’s best fuel for my body, mind, or spirit.

Just last night the word “mercy” caught my eye and I began to really contemplate the mercy that God has given me.  When mercy comes into view it is life-changing. Who am I that I should even be utilized by a loving God?  I have done things and said things that have hurt the people I love.  It is not a pretty view to look at that and know that God has mercifully covered it with His perfect plan.  His perfect sovereignty.  His perfect forgiveness.

Now it is time to turn the page to week two of our challenge.

Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

During week two we must increase the diligence of abstaining from the foods that are faux fuels.  I’d like to encourage you to turn away from any mindless eating you enjoy.  (Mine is Cracked Pepper Triscuits with Muenster Cheese.  Thankfully I conquered the addiction to them in September!)  When we eat just to watch television or chat with others; our minds are not on fueling the body.

Turn your focus instead to the renewing of your mind.  Give yourself time to try new recipes, create your workout schedule and interact with loved ones.  Place “In view of God’s mercy” at the beginning of this week’s verse also!  Keep in touch.

DanceProject_10573939rtMeaningful change in heart, body, and mind takes time, but it all starts with one brave leap forward.  When you do, you say to yourself: I am bigger than the fear that’s holding me back, and I am ready to reach for more.

Change: New Thing

Welcome to 2015. Welcome to the 2015 fitness challenge. Thank you to Cindy Bremkamp the inspiration for an online challenge of this kind. As you prepare for the days ahead; remember this is a journey to a new place. Be gentle with yourself. Be firm; but also balanced with grace.

Your desire to change must be greater than your desire to stay the same.

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  See, I the Lord, am doing a new thing. Isaiah 43:18-19

You have made a decision to improve your health.
You have made a choice to grow.
For the next few months, you will be taking a journey that will change your life.

THE GREATER THE EFFORT, THE GREATER THE GAIN

BE PATIENT with yourself.  The journey is about the PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION.  When you “mess-up” (and you will) QUICKLY FORGIVE yourself and get back on track.  Invite GRACE and TRUTH to be your friends on the journey.  Meditate on BALANCE, FREEDOM, and HEALING, it’s what you deserve.  It’s time to READ AND MEMORIZE inspiring phrases and quotes.  Many women want a new figure, but it starts by reaching for a NEW HEART and a RENEWED MIND.

Resting is an Exercise

imageThe CDC recommends 7-8 hours of sleep for adults.  When our bodies get the correct amount of sleep we function better during the day.  Sometimes sleep has escaped us.  Sometimes sleep isn’t allowing rejuvenation because our stress levels remain trained into levels prepared for only survival living.  It is amazing…but YOU can do something about it.  You can learn STRENGTH in quietness and trust.

The sun will rise again.

Morning Routine

  1. Slowly stand up and roll through the spine.  Stack your vertebrae one on top of another.  You can begin from the bottom, or lumbar spine; stacking up through the middle, or thoracic spine; finish by stacking the top, or the cervical spine onto the tall totem pole of your back.  As you exercise keep the back lifted tall and the back of the head lifted as high as the chin.
  2. Swing your arms. This will not only increase your circulation in the moment of waking; but it will also help you loosen the joints.
  3. Roll your ankles. Lift one foot off the ground and roll the ankle clockwise and then counter clockwise.  Switch feet.
  4. March in place while lifting your knees high. Start stepping in place and gradually lift the knees higher and higher. Then, shift yourself to lift the knees out to the side.  Finish up by lifting the knees toward the back while you flex the muscles of your derriere.

Evening Routine

  • Decide ahead of time when you will begin your bedtime routine. Go to bed at the same time each night, and rise at the same time each morning.
  • Pick a few yoga poses or stretches. Deep breathing accompanying stretches will allow your neuro-muscular stretch reflex release a bit.  This will help reduce stress and help you let go of your day time concerns.
  • Select the best place for you to rest. Sleep in a quiet, dark, and relaxing environment, which is neither too hot nor too cold.
  • You made your bed…now lay in it. Make your bed comfortable and use it the way you consciously decide to use it.
  • Pick a few rituals. Put things beside your bed that will help you bed down for the night.  (chap-stick, eucalyptus and/or lavender, kleenex, nail clippers)
  • Know your go to positions. Take a little time to decide what the best sleep poses are for you.  Then, systematically release each limb into its own nighttime rest.

Yoga stretching Head to Toe

image“Yoga is not a religion. It is a science, science of well-being, science of youthfulness, science of integrating body, mind and soul.”~Amit Ray

The morning begins and I’m foggy.  My heart has recently grown weary of battling constant resistance.  New intention and learning is happening and I’m getting a clearer picture of myself.  There don’t seem to be enough minutes in a day to accomplish each responsibility that I must.  So ~ the morning which has been a delightful concept to me over the years is now bleak. Lucidity chases away the dawn.

Therefor, I rise.  I arrive.  I lead the women in breathing, stretching, and strengthening.  Somehow it all comes together.  My decision to move forward has launched this day into a reality.  There are too many things to do.  It would be nice if some of them were eliminated.  Yet, I know the resistance has a purpose.  It prepares.

Theology of Walking

imageThe NIV translates the lexical Greek peripateo as “live” rather than “walk” but you can feel the traction in the feet of this definition: “To tread or walk about, generally to walk”.  Why all this attention to an everyday action?  In the Bible, walking is often not just an activity, but a theology.

~Beth Moore, Children of the Day

As the days continue to come, it is our personal responsibility to walk through them with out values in place.  Let us make good use of our opportunity!

Peripateo
Phonetic Spelling
per-ee-pat-eh’-o
 Definition
  1. to walk
    1. to make one’s way, progress; to make due use of opportunities
    2. Hebrew for, to live
      1. to regulate one’s life
      2. to conduct one’s self
      3. to pass one’s life
